The International Tourism Fair Berlin or ITB started on March 06 and will end on March 10. A Malagasy delegation is present at the event to develop a new charming operation to seduce German tourists.
The ITB is an opportunity to present the assets of Madagascar to the Germans. To do this, a team of professional tourism operators accompanied by the ONTM promoted the Big Island. According to the ONTM, the primary goal is to reveal to the Germans the various tourist assets that Madagascar possesses, and to reinforce the presence of the Malagasy destination on the German tourism market.
The challenge is therefore launched and the result must be in the positive. It should be noted that the number of German tourists interested in Madagascar is still low compared to French, American and Chinese, if we only speak about them. According to the Ministry of Tourism, only 2570 German tourists came to Madagascar in 2018, a fairly low figure if we refer to other countries. In all, the German tourism market accounts for only 1% of tourist arrivals in Madagascar.
But thanks to the ITB, we hope that this figure will increase from 2019. The organizers have reserved a 50m2 stand to welcome the ONTM and its team. As always, they will highlight the tourist assets of the Big Island.
For information, the ITB is an event that brings together more than 190 participating countries with more than 10,000 exhibitors and 110000 professional operators. The expected number of visitors for this 2019 edition is about 180,000 people.
