EFOI or "Entreprendre au Féminin Océan indien" organized a festival to promote artisanal products made from natural fibres. The event took place on October 10-13, and brought together Malagasy craftsmen and those from neighbouring islands to display their products.
We cannot talk about tourism without going through the artisanal markets of Madagascar to discover and buy products made of natural fibers. Female tourists who come in large numbers to the big island have a crush on these trendy and quality handicrafts.
During the festival, various accessories were offered to visitors : bags, sandals, shoes, decorative items, hats and other practical tools used in the kitchen and ornament. Artisans also introduced small new products that were particularly targeted at cruise passengers and international travelers.
The label "100% natural products indianocéanie" was launched during the event. Its objective is to target the national and international market, as well as the development of artisanal products from the Indian Ocean.
This festival was an opportunity to popularize the use of natural fibers, and find them a channel of marketing through e-commerce. This kind of gathering will allow craftsmen and enthusiasts of products like this to find operational maneuvers to develop the market.
The 40 exhibitors were proud to show their crafts to the general public. They chose quality raw materials to ensure the durability and robustness of the products, including wild silk, rush, raffia, raban and vegetable palm fibers called "satrana" in Malagasy.
